January saw Chairman Herman Mashaba and CEO Nicky du Plessis undertake an intense briefing tour of the Foundation’s many and growing partner network in Norway. The mission comes in the wake of the FBF launching two new Field Bands in the Northern Cape in latter 2015, these being supported by Norwegian-registered energy supplier, Scatec Solar. It was helpful too in updating other partners, introducing new partners to each pother’s work, and to inform audiences of influence who have South African interests.
Well-received and engaging formal addresses on the practical consequences of business support for the arts in development work were given by Mr Mashaba to mixed private and public sector audiences. Briefings were given by both Chairman and CEO to, among others, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Concerts Norway seminar, Scatec Solar’s head office and visiting South African office, longstanding partner the Norwegian Band Federation (NMF), FK Norway, and to the Norwegian-African Business Association.
Then the “padkos” of SA news and love was taken by our heroes to the two bands on which South African students of the Field Band Foundation are working on the joint FBF-NMF PULSE! Programme – sharing SA approaches to music, diversity and expression in an increasingly integrating Scandinavia, while absorbing Norwegian partner insights for adapted use back home.
