Field Band Foundation (FBF) Youth Month Celebrations

Posted Friday June 14, 2019 by irene

Purpose statement:
Field Band Foundation (FBF) uses the joyful and transformative power of marching bands to prepare self-confident and healthy young people to participate constructively in society.”

The FBF creates opportunities for the development and self-empowerment of young South Africans through participation in music, dance and active citizenship. As a way of paying homage to the youth of 1976, we will be hosting 26 performances by FBF bands that will take place in their communities, with street parades in seven of the nine provinces in which we operate, during the National Youth Month.

These events will comprise of community stakeholders such as parents, teachers and community leaders to members of the Departments of Education and Social Development, the local South African Police Services, the fire department and ward councillors.
The aims of these events are:
• To provide an opportunity for the bands to showcase their skills through performances/ street parades at the events
• To promote positive stakeholder engagement while increasing the presence of community stakeholders in band activities
• To strengthen community ownership of the band.
• To reinforce the contribution the FBF is making to the youth in the communities we serve.

As an organisation that has been in existence post -1994, FBF has contributed to the development of more than 50 000 young South Africans who have joined Field Bands, nearly half of whom stayed for more than three years.
With this in mind, the FBF would like to invite members of the media to attend and if possible provide media coverage for any of the community events and learn more about the Foundation.
