Sponsored by the national Department of Arts & Culture, the Field Band Foundation 2016 National Championships take place next week, on Saturday 20 February at the exciting Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto – specialist training ground for SA and Gauteng’s best.
The day’s public proceedings on-field will be opened by Arts & Culture Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi MP, at 09:30.
Practicing most days since they qualified for national championships (about six months back), SA’s top Field Bands each hope to have perfected a show of unique choreography, and are raring to share it with you and with their peers – the broader Foundation Family.
Indeed, local FBF social media is vibrantly “pinging” with member “shout outs” across the country in anticipation of this premier showcase – excitement that we’ve nearly reached the gathering of the Foundation Family, and not without plenty of good-natured ribbing between the formations.
The Investec Black Like Me – Soweto Field Band have home ground advantage, and they’ll be up against it with visitors Alexandra (also Investec), De Beers Blouberg, Emalahleni Dordrecht, Black Like Me – Hammanskraal, De Beers PPC Kimberley, Anglo American Kuruman, De Beers Musina, De Beers Ponahalo Parys, PFG Londulusha Springs, Anglo American Thabazimbi, and Anglo American Tsantsabane.
The event is open to the general public, without charge, and on-field proceedings start at 09:30.
